By nature we are busy creatures. Buzzing from here, there and everywhere. Sometimes it’s very hard to set time aside to spend with yourself.
I personally never prioritized self care for myself because I didn’t realize how important it was for my mental health. Once I finally found things that make me happy, relaxed and recharged I make sure to do something every day, even if it’s sitting in complete silence, enjoying a cup of tea for 5 minutes. I know that probably sounds silly, but there is something about being able to hear your own thoughts and drinking a warm beverage.
Eating well is another form of self care for me for a very simple reason; if I eat like crap, I feel like crap. That’s one of the easiest things for me to stay on track with because I physically feel sluggish and overall unwell when I’m off my routine.
I also love getting a daily dose of sunshine, living in Florida definitely makes that possible but hands down my favorite way to unwind is to play music. I love all different genres but give me something I can dance around my kitchen in and I’m in my element. I’m one of those people that feels like I could win a dance contest but I’m sure my husband has a different story to tell!
Self care is different for each of us. I encourage you to start making a list and write down all the things that make you happy. Once you have that list start carving out time in your day to practice it. If this is something you’re not used to doing it may feel like a chore but know that practicing self care is one of the best things you can do for yourself. It’s like an anti-depressant, minus all the heinous side effects.
Eventually it will become a natural part of your day and will no longer need to be remembered to do. You’ll look forward to it and sincerely miss it if you skip a day.
In good health, I will you all well and I hope you find things that you love that make you truly happy.
